We are bringing to the masses the wonderful work of Switchpatch with a massive thanks to the creator Switchleg for making this all possible! With the secret open sauce everyone has heard of but only a few have tasted we present stage 1 & 2 tunes for the USDM A3/GTI & S3/R models. We also cover some ROW software versions, please check supported box codes for the full compatibility list.

  • Multi Map (5 slots with variable boost, ignition, and lambda)
  • Immobilised Anti Theft Mode
  • Rolling Anti-Lag
  • Custom Launch Control (for manual cars)
  • No Lift Shift (for manual cars)
  • Brake to Start (clutch-less start for manual cars)
  • Boost by Gear
  • EML triggered by ignition retard
  • Fall back map slot

The levels of configurability are literally insane so to keep things simple with the OTS options we have broken it down to 3 main options.

Full Flex Fuel

The full flex fuel option requires an ethanol sensor wired direct to the ECU. The ECU can then directly read the ethanol content in the fuel which can be read on the Simos Tools logger. We can then enable full flex fuel logic which references the sensor reading to add the appropriate ignition timing to optimise your performance on ethanol blends.

Because the flex side is global we can utilise the map slots for varying boost levels and enable/disable features.
Slot 1 - Low Boost / Low Torque
Slot 2 - Medium Boost / Medium Torque
Slot 3 - High Boost / High Torque
Slot 4 - High Boost / High Torque (Extra features such as custom traction control, rolling anti lag can be enabled in this slot)
Slot 5 - Flat 17psi (OEM+)

(Extra features can be enabled / disabled per slot as per your request, please select the options carefully at checkout)

Map Switch Flex Fuel

The map switch flex fuel option is perfect for those without an ethanol sensor who are manually calculating the ethanol content in their fuel. We are able to set a manual ethanol content per map slot which gives you the ability to swap between fuel blends without having to reflash your car.

For this option we have a consistent boost profile as the focus between the different slots is the fuel type.

IS20 Cars
Slot 1 - 93OCT (98+RON) (Medium Boost / Medium Torque)
Slot 2 - E30 High Boost / High Torque
Slot 3 - E50 High Boost / High Torque
Slot 4 - E70 High Boost / High Torque
Slot 5 - 91OCT (95RON) (OEM+)

IS38 Cars
Slot 1 - 93OCT (98+RON) (Medium Boost / Medium Torque)
Slot 2 - E30 Medium Boost / Medium Torque
Slot 3 - E30 High Boost / High Torque
Slot 4 - E40 Medium Boost / Medium Torque
Slot 5 - 91OCT (95RON) (OEM+)

(Extra features can be enabled / disabled per slot as per your request, please select the options carefully at checkout)

Map Switch Pump Fuel

No access to ethanol? If you will be running your car strictly on pump fuel then this is the tune for you!

Without the flex fuel to play with we are able to focus on a range of boost profiles with timing optimised to suit pump fuel (93OCT/98RON) only.
Slot 1 - Low Boost / Low Torque

Slot 2 - Medium Boost / Medium Torque
Slot 3 - High Boost / High Torque
Slot 4 - High Boost / High Torque (Extra features such as custom traction control, rolling anti lag can be enabled in this slot)
Slot 5 - Flat 17psi (OEM+)

(Extra features can be enabled / disabled per slot as per your request, please select the options carefully at checkout)

Features Explained

The range of features that Switchpatch adds to the OEM ECU offers beyond stand alone levels of control with all the cool features someone could possibly ask for...

Map Switching

Map switching is controlled through the cruise control buttons/stalk. The map can be selected with engine off, ignition on or with the engine running, even while in motion. The selected map is saved in the ECU memory so even after turning the car off the map slot you had is remembered when you restart the car.

Immobilised Anti Theft Mode

This does exactly as it states leaves the car in a no start state. In Europe unfortunately car theft is quite common, with these models so having the ability to park the car in a state where even with the key present it will not start is a big bonus.

Rolling Anti-Lag

Possibly the most requested feature in the MQB scene. Fortunately with probably a year of testing across a range of different powered cars with a range of turbos it has not yet windowed any blocks... the rolling anti lag is achieved through single cylinder shutdown with boost modifiers and gradual torque ramping to ensure that there is a smooth transition into the power.

Custom Launch Control

Want your manual GTI or A3 to make cool sounds and build boost on launch like a Golf R/S3. Well here we have exactly that for you, with minimum oil and coolant temps to ensure that it can only be used in the correct conditions.

No Lift Shift

Want no lift shift that actually works? Simply be over 3800RPM with your foot more than 65% down on the accelerator and enjoy slamming home those manual gears without lifting your foot off the gas. Improve your slip times and driving enjoyment.

Brake to Start

Well another cool manual feature (sorry DSG guys) but this one is a simple one. No more clutch down to start the car. Simply foot on the brake and turn the key, or push the button if you're real fancy. (Please note this feature is not available on the 18.10 ECU's currently, it is limited to first generation models only.)

Boost by Gear

Boost by gear allows us to control the boost curve in each of the gears. Now on stock turbos I would personally stick with a solid boost profile across all  of the gears but it is a customisable option. If you would like boost by gear to limit the available boost in 1st and 2nd gear please select the applicable option.

Ignition Retard Alert

Simple yet informative, if you see more than -6 degrees in one cylinder and and more than -3 average across all 4 cylinders your check engine light will flash at you. We have set this up with a fair amount of tolerance so your dashboard doesn't look like a Christmas tree (any more than a VAG product should) but it is there to alert you. Particularly useful for those running fuel blends as it suggests your current fuel is not right for your map setting.

Failsafe Map

The perfect continuation to the point above, if you see -8 degree pull in any cylinder or more than -5 degree average pull your car will automatically swap into map slot 5. Map slot 5 is designed to target close to OEM boost levels with stock ignition profiles. The idea of swapping into this map is to protect engine safety. The ignition events required to trigger this are fairly severe and we would recommend that you do not press on in the car until the issue has been diagnosed.
