Utilities with Simos Tools

To complete the logging and flashing solution Simos Tools is also able to read error codes and run some basic adaptations.

Error code reading is available in both the ECU & DSG.

Adaptations includes the wastegate voltage calibration and DSG basic settings. It is recommended that you do not run an adaptation if they are not required or without understanding what they do.

Read DTC's

GET will display your current error codes.

After screenshotting the present error codes use CLEAR to reset the codes.

If you read the codes after clearing and codes return these would be persistent faults. Faults which appear from time to time are intermittent. All faults should be investigated and resolved.

Error Codes

Error Codes

Your ECU error codes will be displayed with a description of the code.

DSG error codes only display the VAG specific code at the moment.

If you scan for error codes while the car is running the DSG will have a large amount of present codes which are not relevant.

Before and after flashing your car it is always good practice to read, record and clear any present error codes.

Adaptations

Adaptations

You have the option of running two basic adapatations. These adaptations have conditions which need to be met before they will begin.

Wastegate Adaptation

The IS20 & IS38 wastegate voltage should sit between 3.5-3.6V. After installing an aftermarket turbo you will need to reset the actuator. You can read the current voltage in the logger and when it is within range you should run the adaptation so the ECU recognises the wastegate position.

If the voltage is not within range the adaptation will fail and you should adjust the actuator.

DSG Basic Settings

If you are experiencing a change in shifting behaviour it could be worth running the basic settings relarn on your DSG. It is reccomended that you do not run basic settings if the car and transmission is driving well.

In order to run a DSG basic settings there are some condition that must be met.

Transmission temperature must be between 30-100 degrees celcius.
Car running, gear selector in park.
Parking brake / handbrake with your foot firmly on the brake.

Begin the basic settings. You are likely to hear some thuds and clunks from your transmission while it carries out the adaptation. Maintain your foot firmly on the brake until the procedure tells you it is complete.

The basic settings will not complete if any of the conditions are not met or the fluid temperature rises above the max range allowed.

After completing the basic setting it is reccomended to read the codes, record and clear them before driving.
